From 17th to 19th May the Domaine Equestre des Grands Pins is to host the first leg of the newly launched FEI Dressage Nations Cup circuit.
This circuit has just four dates:
The Nations Cups are team competitions, each team having a maximum of 4 members. The rankings are decided after the Grand Prix class which will be on Friday 17th May at 3 pm in the Jappeloup arena.
Five nations are competing in this first leg: France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden.
The French national trainer, Alain Francqueville, has lined up four couples: Claire Gosselin/Karamel de Lauture, recent winners of the Pro Elite Grand Prix Special at Jardy; Jacques Albeck/Collin 73, back on the international circuit since the beginning of the year; Catherine Henriquet/Paradieszauber, victors of the Pro Elite at Boulerie Jump; and Karen Tebar/Florentino 47, who recently gave some promising performances at the CDI3* at Somma Campagna in Italy.
They will be competing against four very strong teams. Our English neighbours are bringing just 3 couples lead by Sarah Millis with HP Fronter who were present at Saumur at the beginning of May.
The Netherlands team is composed of Stephanie Peters riding Unlimited who were 5th in the World Cup Grand Prix in s’Hertogenbosch, Laurens van Lieren with Hexagon’s Welnetter, Danielle Heijkoop and Kinsley Siro, and Katja Gevers riding Thriller.
From Switzerland Elisabeth Eversfield-Koch and Rokoko N are returning to the international circuit for the first time since the World Cup in Lyon. They are accompanied by three other international riders: Gilles Ngovan with Solid Brown, Melanie Hofmann riding GB Cazzago C CH and Hans Staub with Warbeau.
Finally, the most serious contenders will be the Swedish team with Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven who recently came 3rd in the World Cup final with Don Aureillo. For this CDIO she is riding Divertimento with whom she was very well placed at the World Cup in Wellington. The team also comprises Minna Telde with Don Charly 1052 who were placed at the CDI3* and 4* at Bremen and Doha earlier this year and Jeanna Högberg riding Liza Minelli with whom she won the Grand Prix to music during the second week of the Spring Tour. The fourth couple is Caroline Darcourt with Paridon Magi.
Alongside this Nations Cup competition is a CDI3* and a CDI Young Horse.
In the 5 and 6 year old classes are the locally bred Massa horses ridden by Arnaud Serre and Ludovic Martin. Bernadette Brune will be showing her two promising Oldenburgers : Di Magic OLD and Diary Dream.
In the Small Tour of the 3 star event Vidauban will be welcoming Matthias-Alexander Rath with two horses: Hope and Don Henrico. The German rider is returning to international competition for the first time since April 2012.
Next weekend will be a unique sporting event with a festive touch as there is a Gala evening on Saturday 18th May.
